Compostable Bin Liners

Compostable Bin Liners – 100% Biodegradable, Eco-Friendly Rubbish Bags

Looking for a greener way to handle waste? Biotuff’s compostable bin liners are the perfect eco-friendly alternative to plastic trash bags. Our liners – also known as biodegradable bin bags or compostable rubbish bags – offer the strength and convenience of traditional bin liners without the long-lasting pollution. They are designed to break down safely into natural materials, helping you manage garbage responsibly while keeping your home (and the planet) clean.

At Biotuff, we believe managing waste sustainably starts with everyday products. Our compostable bags are certified to strict Australian standards and made from plant-base  d materials, ensuring they degrade into organic matter instead of lingering as microplastics. From kitchen caddies and office bins to garden waste and council wheelie bins, we have a compostable liner for every need – all delivering reliable leak-proof performance with zero guilt.

What Makes Biotuff Compostable Liners Different?

Certified & Trusted: Biotuff’s liners meet the Australian AS4736 (commercial) and AS5810 (home) composting standards. This means they’ve passed rigorous tests to fully break down in compost environments, leaving no harmful residues. You can toss them in both industrial compost facilities and your backyard compost heap with confidence.

100% Plant-Based Materials: Unlike regular “biodegradable” bags that might contain plastics, our liners are made entirely from renewable, plant-derived ingredients (like cornstarch). They contain no petroleum plastics at all, so no microplastics are left behind as they decompose. When we say 100% biodegradable, we mean it – these bags turn into water, CO₂, and nutrient-rich biomass, not tiny plastic fragments.

Tough & Leak-Resistant: Don’t let the eco-friendly aspect fool you – Biotuff bags are extra durable. Engineered with a high-strength design, they resist punctures and leaks even when handling wet food scraps or garden trimmings. You get the convenience and reliability of a plastic bin liner without the environmental cost. No more double-bagging or messy bin cleanups needed!

Australian-Made Quality: Biotuff is proudly Australian, and our compostable liners carry the official Seedling logo and certifications recognized by councils across Australia. We’re locally owned and operated, so we understand Aussie households and climate. Our liners are built to handle everything from hot summers to busy family kitchens, all while meeting local council requirements for green waste programs.

Zero-Waste Philosophy: Every Biotuff bag supports a circular economy. Traditional plastic bags can linger for centuries and break into microplastics, but our compostable liners break down into beneficial compost that enriches soil. By switching to Biotuff, you’re actively reducing plastic pollution and supporting sustainable waste cycles. It’s a small change that makes a big impact over time – one bin at a time.

Compostable vs. Biodegradable vs. Traditional Plastic Bags

Understanding these terms is key when choosing sustainable products. Not all “green” bags are created equal! Here’s how compostable, biodegradable, and plastic bags compare:

Biodegradable Bags

  • Breakdown Uncertainty: Biodegradable means a material can break down naturally over time (via microbes, heat, etc.), but there are no guarantees on how long or what’s left behind. It could take years or decades, and some so-called biodegradable plastics just fragment into tiny pieces.

  • Microplastic Risk: Many “biodegradable” bags (especially those with additives like oxo-degradable plastics) don’t fully vanish – they simply break into smaller bits of plastic. These microplastics can persist in the environment and harm wildlife and ecosystems. In short, a biodegradable label alone doesn’t ensure an eco-safe outcome.

Compostable Bags

  • Strict Standards: Compostable bags are held to a higher standard. They must break down completely into organic matter (water, CO₂, biomass) within a set timeframe, leaving no toxic residue or microplastics. When a bag is certified compostable (look for AS4736/AS5810 or similar certifications), you know it will turn into natural compost under the right conditions.

  • Home & Industrial Composting: Compostable bags decompose quickly in industrial facilities (typically around 90 days at high temperatures). Many, like Biotuff’s, are also certified for home compost, meaning they’ll break down in your garden pile too – just a bit more slowly. All compostable bags are biodegradable, but they go a step further by meeting strict eco-safety criteria.

Traditional Plastic Bags

  • Petro-Based & Persistent: Conventional plastic bags (made from polyethylene and other petrochemicals) are not biodegradable in any meaningful timescale. They can take decades or even centuries to break down, and even then, they never truly biodegrade – they only fragment into microplastics. A single plastic grocery bag might linger in landfills for generations.

  • Pollution & Wildlife Impact: As plastic bags photodegrade, they release tiny plastic particles that contaminate soil and waterways. Wildlife can ingest these or get entangled in plastic litter. Unlike compostable liners, plastics don’t return any value to the earth; they just accumulate and pollute. (In fact, almost every piece of plastic ever made still exists today in some form!)

In short: all compostable products are biodegradable, but not all biodegradable products are compostable. Compostable liners like Biotuff’s give you the assurance of complete breakdown without harm, whereas an ordinary “biodegradable” bag or plastic bag may still leave a lasting legacy of waste.

Certified Compostable Liners for Every Bin

No matter what bin you’re lining, Biotuff has a compostable solution to fit. We offer a range of bag sizes and types to suit kitchen scraps, yard waste, pet waste, and general household garbage – all with the same compostable, leak-proof performance. Choose the liners that meet your needs:

  • Kitchen Caddy Liners Tidy up food scraps guilt-free. These small compostable bags (e.g. 8L, 12L sizes) are perfect for benchtop compost caddies and kitchen FOGO bins. They’re slim but strong, holding all your vegetable peels, coffee grounds, and plate scraps without leaking. When full, toss the entire bag into your compost bin or council green bin – it will break down along with its contents. (No more smelly, messy caddy to rinse out!)

  • Bathroom & Office Bin Liners A greener choice for light waste. Swap out those plastic grocery bags in your bathroom, bedroom, or office bins for our compostable liners (commonly 20–36L sizes). They offer the same leak-proof strength, keeping your small waste bins dry and odor-free, but will safely biodegrade after disposal. These liners are ideal for tissues, paper scraps, and general tidy-ups – you’ll hardly notice a difference in performance, but the planet will thank you.

  • Garden Waste Bags Heavy-duty bags for outdoor clean-ups. Got leaves, grass clippings, or prunings to collect? Biotuff’s Xtra Tuff garden bags (e.g. 54L, 80L sacks) are built for the job. Made extra thick and robust, they can handle sticks, wet leaves, and lawn clippings without tearing. Fill them up for your next yard cleanup or autumn leaf fall – then compost the whole bag with the green waste. These bags decompose fully along with your garden organics, making yard work truly zero-waste.

  • Council & Wheelie Bin Liners Keep big bins clean and green. Lining a large outdoor wheelie bin (80L, 120L, or even 240L)? Our commercial-size compostable liners fit most standard council bins and trash cans. They’re tough enough for weekly household garbage or organics collection, contain odors and leaks, and are certified to be accepted in council FOGO programs. Use them to line your green bin or even your general waste bin – either way, you’re cutting down on plastic. Biotuff’s wheelie bin liners are popular with councils and eco-conscious businesses for managing bulk waste sustainably.

Each type of bag comes with clear usage instructions, and we offer packs in various quantities (from handy roll packs for home to bulk cartons for businesses or events). By choosing the right Biotuff liner for each bin, you make disposal easier, cleaner, and far more eco-friendly.
